Hello! Thank you so much for visiting Sugar Bee Flowers’s web site.

There is good news and bad news – the bad news is that I am taking a break from wedding and event flowers for a while to pursue my dream of having a flower garden where I can grow my flowers and greenery so I can grow them as naturally, organically and sustainably as possible. As you can imagine, this will take a lot of planning, investing and planting/growing.

As I continued with Sugar Bee Flowers, I realised that there are limited things I can do for the environment with the flower business – I buy local flowers as much as possible, I use 100% recycled paper for all printing (which I don’t do much anyway), I recycle all cardboard, paper and plastic, I drive a Prius for deliveries (to minimise carbon emission) and I have 3 composts to fill greenery from flowers/foliage. But that’s about it I can do – as a very very tiny part of floral industry, I can’t do much about its possible impact on the environment. I am starting to question pushing the plants so much to grow them for a special occasion (Valentine’s day for example). I’m not saying that giving flowers is bad – in fact, I believe that flowers make the day extra special and will definitely bring smiles to the lucky person! But all the heating and chemicals used for flowers must have some impact on the environment.

So, (here’s the good news!) I’m going to come back with a flower garden where I can grow flowers and greenery to use for weddings, special events, and gifts, and this will be somewhere people (adults and kids) can come for a birthday party or special party to pick some flowers for themselves and make a flower arrangement. It will be a “flower arrangement party destination”! J

This is my dream for now – To my special couples that have booked me for their weddings in 2012 – I have not lost passion for flower arrangement at all. Please don’t be concerned – I will definitely, definitely be doing your wedding flowers!!

In the meanwhile, I will sell small posies and arrangements at my friend’s café (which is opening in the Dandenong ranges mid 2012) – Will let you know when this happens. Also, I’ll be one of the organiser of new NPO in Permaculture and Sustainability.
